The Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property

Following the announcement in the National Intellectual Property Strategy (2022/27) that Egypt will create a new IP authority, the Egyptian Council of Ministers has now approved a draft law that will establish ‘The Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property’.

The new authority will be required to regulate, maintain and protect IP rights in Egypt, whilst taking account of Egypt’s international obligations.

The new authority will also be required to create a balance between the need to protect IP rights on the one hand and the need to facilitate economic, social, cultural and technological developments (including the creation of a knowledge economy) on the other.
