Trainee Trade Mark Administrator

Spoor & Fisher Jersey helps global brand owners and inventors to protect and enforce their trade mark, patent and design portfolios in Africa and the Caribbean - from providing initial advice on filing strategies to conducting clearance searches, filing and registration and dealing with post-registration matters such as renewing trade marks, patents and designs, recording changes in ownership and handling trade mark assignments and licences.

Role Description

We are looking to recruit a Trainee Trade Mark Administrator to join our team. You will handle specialised work relating to trade mark searches on behalf of our global clients. This means finding out and reporting on if the trade mark(s) they wish to register are already in use by another party. The role requires attention to detail as well as strong research and report-generating skills. To be successful, you will need to multi-task effectively under pressure and use your initiative to thrive in a team-orientated environment where resourcefulness, pragmatism and adaptability are key.

You will work under supervision to support our trade mark search team and trade mark portfolio managers as follows:

Role Responsibilities

  • Evaluate clients’ search instructions and request clarification or further information, if required. 
  • Prepare trade mark search instructions and reports.
  • Assess and identify potential trade marks to be included in the search reports. 
  • Investigate and cross-check search results with online public records, archived journals, our database and any other relevant external databases for inclusion in the search reports.
  • Conduct Internet searches for inclusion in the search reports. 
  • Access and complete online search reporting platforms and templates in accordance with clients’ requirements. 
  • Generate invoices and general correspondence.
  • Administer and update our electronic filing system and databases.
  • Any other responsibility appropriate for the role and grade.
