The Trademarks Registry in Nigeria has introduced a temporary process to handle certain online applications which have stalled due to long running issues with the online filing platform.
This option applies only to marks filed via the online platform originally and for specific actions such as amendments, appeals, refusals and withdrawals that the portal currently can’t process fully. In such instances, it is possible to submit a written request that the matter be processed ‘manually’ along with copies of relevant documentation for consideration.
While the move offers a proactive way forward for such applications, it is unclear how matters will be processed in practice. Our team will be keeping a close watch on how the new process unfolds and will continue to prioritise the most effective route for handling client matters.
