We recently reported that the Republic of Cape Verde had acceded to a number of international agreements, although the instruments of accession had yet to be deposited.

Amongst the agreements are – the ARIPO foundation agreements, including the Lusaka Agreement, the Banjul Protocol (trade marks) and the Harare Protocol (patents).

It has now been reported that on 14 July 2022 Cape Verde presented its instruments of accession to the following ARIPO agreements – the Lusaka Agreement, as well as the Harare, Banjul, Swakopmund and Arusha Protocols – thereby becoming the 22nd ARIPO member state.

This presentation took place at the Embassy of Cape Verde in Geneva, where the country’s Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Alexandre Monteiro, presented the instruments of accession to the Director-General of ARIPO, Mr Bemanya Twebaze. The accession is expected to become effective on 14 October 2022.
