The Spoor & Fisher Canteen Enterprise Initiative

When we transferred the entirety of our in-house canteen operation to canteen personnel, we were able to create an enterprise with 100% black female ownership.

Our involvement

Aiming to equip the canteen personnel with a kitchen, front-of-floor facilities, a sound canteen management infrastructure, and all of the skills required to provide a first-class service, the Spoor & Fisher Canteen Enterprise Initiative provides skills transfer to canteen personnel, with external service providers assisting as needed. 

There is a chef / caterer on-site one day a week, to bring the staff up to speed on bulk catering and culinary skills. On the managerial side, additional training is provided by a specialist in small enterprise development, to help the Spoor & Fisher canteen operation to succeed as an independent enterprise.
