We were honoured to be Platinum Sponsors of the 2024 South African Research & Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) Conference, under the theme of “It Takes a Village.” This year’s event spotlighted the collaborative effort required to foster innovation and growth, and at Spoor & Fisher, this resonates deeply with our mission. As Africa’s leading intellectual property law firm, we believe in the power of partnership and community in driving impactful change.

SARIMA is an organisation that connects research and innovation practitioners with the aim of strengthening these disciplines and intuitional capabilities across the SADC region.

Our involvement in SARIMA reflects our dedication to supporting innovators at every stage of their journey. Reaffirming our ethos that every pioneer needs a partner, we connected with technology transfer professionals, research managers, inventors, and fellow IP lawyers at the conference held in Mozambique this year. Our platinum sponsorship is more than just an acknowledgement of our support; it’s a reflection of our role in empowering Africa’s pioneers and trailblazers.

Spoor & Fisher’s, Chyreene Truluck, Tyron Grant, Dirk Hanekom, and Thandanani Cwele were in attendance, with Tyron giving an insightful talk entitled “Breaking Bad: Unveiling a Few Key Strategies for TTO Efficiency”. The team also hosted a fun-filled Bingo evening which provided an opportunity to network in a more relaxed (yet competitive) setting. Prices were given out to the Bingo winners and we also hosted a social media competition, where we chose two winners that showcased the event in the most interesting way. Thank you to Monique Heystek and Lucy Moyo for sharing your experience at SARIMA 2024 in such a unique way.

We look forward to next year’s SARIMA conference and our continued drive to empower pioneers and protect and manage their IP.
