The Ugandan IP authority, the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, has issued a second notice that 4,095 expired trade mark registrations will be struck off if they are not renewed on or before 14 July 2021. This public notice appeared in the government publication, New Vision, on 14 June 2021. This supersedes the initial notice issued in May with an original deadline of 23 June 2021.

In Uganda, the initial trade mark registration term is seven years, followed by renewal terms of 10 years. Trade mark owners who have allowed Ugandan trade mark registrations to lapse may wish to avail themselves of this opportunity. Trade mark owners who are unsure about whether any of their registrations may be affected by this development can, of course, contact us
