ACA Stakeholder Recognition Awards: Honouring Excellence in IP Protection and Enforcement
Spoor & Fisher is proud to accept the award for Exemplary Law Firm in Intellectual Property presented by the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA).
The ACA hosted the event in Nairobi, which was attended by Spoor & Fisher partner and anti-counterfeiting champion, Paul Ramara. The event represented the conclusion of the Second International Conference on Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement and also recognised World Anti-Counterfeit Day. A day established by the European IPO to bring together stakeholders in combating counterfeiting and ro raise awareness on the important role played by intellectual property rights in the fight against fake goods.
The ACA 2024 Stakeholder Recognition Awards showcased the teamwork and commitment of IP stakeholders, underscoring the vital need for ongoing vigilance and cooperation in combating counterfeits. The four award categories are:
- Outstanding Association Award for Anti-Counterfeiting
- Distiguished IPR Agent
- Exemplary IP Law Firm in IP Protection – which was awarded to Spoor & Fisher
- Oustanding Journalists in IP Reporting
The event was attended by Dr. Juma Mukhwana, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Industry, who presented the above awards in recognition of each awardee’s significant role in combating counterfeits in Kenya. Dr. Mukhwana, highlighted the Kenyan government’s collaboration with WIPO and leading government agencies in formulating a comprehensive national IP policy and strategy to support innovation and competitiveness.
“We have a draft National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy (NIPPS) which lays the groundwork for Kenya’s national IP policy and strategy for the period 2023-2027″.
Paul has been actively combating counterfeiting in Kenya since 2015 and remains committed to working with brands and local authorities to provide robust IP protection across Africa. With over two decades of experience in trade mark and anti-counterfeiting litigation, he has handled some big cases relating to anti-counterfeiting in Southern Africa and East Africa, and has successfully represented clients in a number of litigation cases in Kenya and Zambia.
