Trinidad and Tobago has joined the Madrid Protocol on the international registration of trade marks.

Although the formalities were completed on 12 October 2020, this will officially only come into effect on 12 January 2021. New regulations have been passed, the Trade Marks (International Registrations) Regulations 2020.

Trinidad and Tobago is an economically successful nation with significant oil and gas reserves. The country has a modern trade mark system based on 2015 legislation. As such there is multi-class filing, examination, opposition, a 10-year registration term, cancellation for non-use (five years), scope to enforce registrations for both infringement and dilution, and a customs watch procedure.
