A world class Chemical and Life Sciences IP team
Our chemical and life sciences patent attorneys are highly skilled scientists with qualifications and experience spanning the breadth of patents and technology in the fields of chemistry and life sciences.
On the chemical front, these include material sciences, petrochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, agrochemistry, explosive technologies, metallurgy electrochemistry, water treatment and food and beverage processing technologies, to name a few. We continually strive to keep abreast of local and international developments in patent law affecting biotech and life sciences – and are thus able to offer the best advice and protection in a rapidly changing environment. Our expertise includes an in-depth knowledge of related issues, such as the Biodiversity and Genetically Modified Organisms Acts, Plant Breeders’ Rights, and The Intellectual Property from Publicly Financed Research and Development Act.
We have extensive experience and expertise in preparing, filing and prosecuting to grant patent applications internationally, and can also call upon the skills and knowledge of our electronics and nanotechnology departments for multidisciplinary inventions. As a result, a significant number of foreign clients prefer to use our services, for drafting and prosecuting their patent specifications, rather than using their local patent attorneys. Local clients are drawn from across the spectrum, ranging from South Africa’s largest blue-chip companies and universities to SMEs, start-up companies and individuals. Our chemical and life sciences patent team is passionate about protecting clients’ intellectual property assets and to finding innovative ways to assist them in realising the full potential of their IP portfolio.
